How To Market Your Indie Game | Rami Ismail

Rami Ismail is a well-known indie game designer and developer from the Netherlands that is often found on the gaming circuit helping other indie developers on topics of diversity whilst sharing his experiences of the industry. Working alongside Jan Willem Nijman (JW) the two created Vlambeer and with it a slew of addictive and unique games such as Ridiculous Fishing, Luftrausers and Nuclear Throne.

I was lucky enough to catch up with him at Game Anglia and quiz him about his life in games and how to market your indie game on a budget. We also discussed what to do when your game is cloned after his successful fishing game ‘Ridiculous Fishing’ was cloned and released.

Outside of games, Vlambeer also created PressKit() which is an easy-to-use website add-on for indie game developers to use that helps with PR. With PressKit, devs can add a short and long description, add any images or screenshots and include any key contacts. This has helped make game information easy to access, use and then promoted by the press and bloggers.

Rami offers up a lot of fantastic tips throughout the video so be sure to watch it all.
