Video games aren’t short of villains, but who do you think is the most twisted? Tis the season to be frightened so I put together my list of the five most psychotic and deranged video game characters ever to grace the screen.
The Joker | Batman: Arkham Asylum
OK, so this one might be a little obvious, as the Joker was wacko WAYYYY before he made it into video games. But it was in Arkham Asylum and using the voice talents are Mark Hamill that really gave THIS Joker depth in his madness.
Vaas | Far Cry 3
Far Cry 3 was a turning point for the series and something the franchise has tried to build on since. Vaas was brought to life by actor Michael Mando, who you may also know as Nacho Varga in Better Call Saul. Vaas is an iconic villain in gaming and as his twisted mind comes up with new and interesting ways to torture people, it’s horrible and grotesque and as sick as you like. But admit it… when he said “he’ll “give $10,000 to the first person to bring him Jason Brody’s nutsack.” You laughed…
The Baker Family | Resident Evil 7
Resident Evil went back to basics after the Umbrella Saga, as faceless corporations just weren’t as scary as being trapped in a house with a bunch of flesh-eating crazies. After being infected and taken over by Eveline, most of the Baker family turned into highly sadistic killers whose nature became blatantly violent, deranged, and cannibalistic. Their erratic personalities and unpredictable nature kept players on edge as they chased you through the house, burst through walls, or simply sat with you eating bits of intestines.
Trevor Phillips – Grand Theft Auto V
Some people are born crazy, others have crazy thrust upon them. We meet Trevor during his violent, rude, completely irrational phase. A man who prides himself on having a successful career in crime but the more back story we get, the more we understand. Trevor’s life of care homes, correctional facilities, and foster parents was tough and broke what was already a pretty messed up kid. The end result was a complete psycho with no empathy for human life.
Sander Cohen – Bioshock
Sander Cohen is a crazy mix of Salvador Dali and Ghostface. As both a nightclub owner and art enthusiast, he is elegant, and classy but completely bonkers. This mix of his high brow and murderous nature is uncomfortable. Upon meeting him you witness a performance by a man plastered to a piano shortly before it explodes. From there it descends into madness. Waltz of the Flowers has never sounded so haunting.
So there you have it, my list of completely mad characters that you wouldn’t want to meet down a dark alley. Who would you add to the list, post them in the comments below.
