Aliens: Dark Descent – What We Know

As a huge fan of the Alien franchise, I am excited to share what we know so far about the upcoming game, Aliens: Dark Descent.

Aliens Dark Descent Release Date

Developed by Tindalos Interactive and Focus Entertainment in collaboration with 20th Century Studios, the game is set to launch worldwide on June 20, 2023, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.

Storyline

Aliens: Dark Descent follows the story of a Colonial Marines detachment whose ship crashes into Planet Lethe, where they are forced to investigate a Xenomorph outbreak. The game promises an authentic Alien narrative full of sinister secrets, iconic Xenomorphs and brand new threats. Players will have to employ a range of tactical abilities to unravel the story and uncover the planet’s secrets.

 

Aliens Dark Descent Gameplay

The first gameplay video for Aliens: Dark Descent was revealed in June 2022. It showed that the game is a strategic, real-time squad-based tactical action game, which is different from what was presented in the cinematic announcement trailer. Players take on the role of a squad commander with an isometric, overhead view, allowing them to survey the field. The game felt very similar to XCOM which wasn’t a bad thing.

Recruit, level up, and command your squad of Colonial Marines in real-time and as one unit with intuitive controls on both keyboard & mouse and controller. Players will need to use their wits to navigate expansive, persistent, and reactive levels and complete objectives. The game offers a bullet-time feature that slows down time enough for players to distribute commands like a pro. However, be cautious and monitor each Marine’s vitals – death is permanent for anyone who falls in combat.

Graphics and Art Style

The game promises to be an impressive visual experience, thanks to the classic H.R Gieger art style. Aliens: Dark Descent promises to bring the franchise to life in a way never seen before with both original xenomorphs and some new creatures being added to the mix.
