A Journey Through Memories
Spiral invites players to step into the shoes of Bernard Penfield, an introverted writer nearing the end of his life. The game encourages players to delve into Bernard’s memories, revisiting significant moments from various phases of his life. As players explore these memories, they will encounter a diverse cast of characters—family, friends, and others—who have played important roles in Bernard’s journey.
As the story unfolds, the effects of cognitive degeneration become increasingly apparent, subtly influencing the game’s environment, dialogue, and music. Players are encouraged to explore Bernard’s memories thoroughly, as doing so may help him retain crucial details longer, allowing him to share thoughts and experiences that might otherwise be lost forever.
A Personal Connection
Mikhael, the Creative Director at Folklore Games, shared insights into the inspiration behind Spiral:
“We’re so proud of Spiral; events and interactions with people made us understand the why behind our project even more. It has been helping people to talk about their grief, opening a discussion and bringing people to see the person behind the sickness. Spiral will hopefully be that window where people can share their own story with cognitive degeneration and make us all more aware of the loneliness of it all and how much our presence can help.”
Spiral will be available for purchase on Steam at $23.99 USD, with the release set for 10 AM EST on September 20th, 2024. Gamers eager to experience this touching narrative can also download a free demo and add the game to their wishlist in anticipation of its release.
