The ambitious co-op Metroidvania Anima Flux is expanding its reach, with developer Anima Flux team announcing both a GOG release and an Xbox demo arriving this month.
Xbox players can get their first taste of this dark sci-fi adventure through an exclusive demo launching 9th December, whilst GOG users will have access to the full game from 10th December. The title previously launched on Steam in October.
A Tale of Two Soldiers
Set aboard humanity’s last refuge – a colossal space ark – Anima Flux casts players as enhanced soldiers defending against a mutant invasion. The game’s distinctive hook lies in its cooperative approach to the Metroidvania formula, with two players developing different abilities as they progress. Solo players needn’t worry, as an AI companion stands ready to assist.
Retro-Futuristic Aesthetics
Drawing inspiration from 80s and 90s science fiction, the game promises hand-drawn cutscenes and detailed 2D environments. The narrative tackles weighty themes through what the developers describe as “sharp, ironic dialogue”, whilst the consciousness transfer mechanic adds an intriguing twist to the usual permadeath formula.
The full release arrives on GOG next week, joining the existing Steam version, with the Xbox demo offering console players their first opportunity to experience this dystopian world.
