Saber Interactive’s latest venture puts players in control of rebuilding a world torn apart by natural disasters
The construction simulation genre is about to get significantly weightier with RoadCraft, a new title that puts players at the helm of recovery operations in disaster-stricken areas around the globe. Following today’s gameplay overview trailer, we’ve got our first proper look at what might be one of the most ambitious entries in the genre to date.
More Than Just Moving Dirt
What immediately stands out about RoadCraft is its premise. Rather than simply focusing on construction, the game places players in the role of a “front-line rebuilder” – tasked with reviving areas devastated by natural disasters. From flood-ravaged regions to areas buried under relentless sandstorms, each environment presents unique challenges that require different approaches and machinery.
Physics-Driven Gameplay
Saber Interactive, known for their expertise in off-road vehicle simulation, appears to be flexing their technical muscles with what they’re calling a “cutting-edge physics engine”. The gameplay footage suggests this isn’t mere marketing speak – the interaction between machinery and environment looks properly weighty, with terrain deformation appearing particularly impressive.
Launch Plans and Editions
When RoadCraft launches on 20th May 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, players will have two editions to choose from. The Standard Edition includes the base game and the Aramatsu Bowhead 30T DLC vehicle – a rather impressive rotating heavy dump truck. Those wanting to go all-in can opt for the Rebuild Edition, which includes additional content and early access to the 2025 expansion pack.
What’s particularly intriguing is how RoadCraft seems to be positioning itself as more than just another construction simulator. The focus on disaster recovery adds a narrative weight to the proceedings that could help it stand out in an increasingly crowded genre.
