Chucklefish has revealed that their highly anticipated magical life-sim Witchbrook will be launching on PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox this Winter. The announcement came alongside the first gameplay footage, which debuted during today’s Nintendo Direct, giving fans a long-awaited glimpse into this enchanting world.
A Charming Witch Life in Mossport
Witchbrook invites players to enrol at Witchbrook College and begin their journey as a witch-in-training in the bustling seaside city of Mossport. The first gameplay footage showcased the vibrant coastal town, lush surrounding woodlands, and the magical grounds of the college itself—hinting at the richly detailed world that awaits players.
What sets Witchbrook apart from other life-sims is the focus on magical academia and the freedom to craft your own witch’s tale. Between attending classes and learning new spells, players can spend their time foraging in deep woodlands, selling crafts at the Sunday Market, participating in seasonal events, or renovating their cosy woodland cottage.
Four-Player Magical Co-op
In an exciting development, Chucklefish has confirmed that Witchbrook will support online co-op for up to four players. Friends can explore this idyllic sandbox together, creating unique stories and experiencing magical academia as a group—a feature that should add considerable depth to the game’s social elements.
The game promises a colourful cast of characters to befriend and potentially romance, alongside customisable clothing, hair, and accessories to express your unique witchy aesthetic.
A Thoughtful Approach to Development
Rodrigo Braz Monteiro, lead developer, expressed his enthusiasm for the project: “Witchbrook is the most exciting project I’ve ever worked on, and it’s been a long time coming. I don’t think that the level of simulation and fidelity we’ve aimed for in this game is expected of any games short of AAA, and to see it realised in a pixel art indie game has been very satisfying to us.”
Notably, the team at Chucklefish has embraced a four-day work week and a firm no-crunch policy during development. Producer Rosie Ball emphasised this approach: “We know creativity flourishes in a healthy work environment, and we’re confident that the mindful and deliberate pace of Witchbrook delivers this experience to the players.”
Art Director Steph Caskenette described the game as “our love letter to thoughtful living, the quiet magic of slow moments, and the connections we share with each other and the world around us.”
Witchbrook will be available in multiple languages including English, French, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. Xbox players will be pleased to know the game will also be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one.
As winter approaches, the magical world of Witchbrook may just be the perfect cosy retreat for those seeking an enchanting life-sim experience.
